Plein Air Painting

Tuesdays, Aug. 11 – Sept. 8, 2026  |  11:00 AM–1:00 PM  |  Live online via Zoom  |  $125  |  Instructor: Tim Stone

Oil pastels are an incredibly versatile and approachable medium, ideal for working both at home and on the go. In this class I'll share how I use them for plein air work while traveling, and we'll explore how to take initial sketches and studies and develop them further back in the studio.

Working outdoors, we'll focus on capturing the color, light, and essence of our surroundings. This raw, unpredictable format is one of the best ways to sharpen your ability to depict what you actually see, rather than what you expect to see.

Each class includes instruction and critique, dedicated work time with Q&A, and time set aside for feedback on your pieces. You'll also continue working outside of class — paying attention to how each piece feels, and what that tells you about your process.
