Oil Pastels & Collage: Developing a Body of Work

Fridays, Aug. 7 – Sept. 4, 2026  |  3:00–4:00 PM  |  Live via Zoom  |  $125  |  Instructor: Tim Stone

This five-week online studio course is designed for artists who are ready to move beyond experimentation and begin developing a cohesive body of work. Working primarily with oil pastels and collage, students will create a series of related artworks that explore a consistent subject, idea, or visual language.

Classes include demonstrations, discussions, group critiques, and individual feedback. Students will continue developing their work outside of class and documenting their progress.

Each week we'll study the work of a contemporary artist who has mastery over their practice and is a full-time artist. Together we'll examine their influences, materials, processes, and conceptual approach, using these examples to better understand how artists develop a recognizable visual language over time.

By the end of the course you will have a small body of related work, a short artist statement, and a set of digital images ready to be used for exhibition opportunities and online presentation.
